In 2010 Floodcheck was asked by Lloyds Underwriters to do a water leak risk assessment for the new flats and complexes for the London 2012 Olympics. Namely the Athletes Village in Stratford, London E15.
With the imminent occupation by many different short term tenants, the athletes, with some not able to speak English, and the fact the blocks were ten stories high, the risk was classified as real and serious.
An estimate of about £2.5m was given to supply and install Floodcheck in all the 2800 flats, shops and precincts.
The Floodchecks would be supplied by Floodcheck but they would only be involved in a supervisory capacity. The Olympics Committee’s own contractors would do the installations.
Initially this was considered to be too much of a ‘luxury’ by the Olympic Committee, but after some very serious and expensive water damage had occurred, before the athletes had even arrived, they changed their minds.
Floodcheck was then contacted and 2800+ units were very quickly installed, one in every flat in the village.
Bill Saint worked very closely with the managers responsible for water control on the site, and they met many times to ensure that any issues and queries were dealt with quickly and efficiently.
To this day we have not heard of any case of there having been any serious water leaks or failures of any of the Floodchecks.
The manager of the water installation project at the Athletes Village has kindly agreed to add a few complementary words of his own.
“As the person responsible for the quality and safety of the entire water system and supply at the Athletes Village I would like to endorse Floodcheck.
Floodcheck was originally recommended to the committee by another large building contractor who had previous hands-on experience of the device.
I took the usual precaution of reading, studying, and checking the test reports and results from the UK test laboratories on Floodcheck, which were all very impressive.
In particular the comprehensive and vigorous tests done by the UK W.R.A.S. (Water Regulatory Advisory Scheme). I was impressed by the protection Floodcheck offered; the ease of installation, operation, and the relatively low cost.
I have many years experience with important projects like the Athletes Village, and I would personally recommend and advise any builder, large or small, to fit Floodcheck as mandatory in all their new projects.
The backup service and support supplied by Mr Saint and the Floodcheck team was second to none.”
