Q How close to the Stopcock should I install the Floodcheck device?
A You should install the Floodcheck device as close as practical to the stop cock, and before any joints for maximum protection of the property. We suggest installing the Floodcheck 60mm from the stopcock to allow for cutting of the pipe and fitting of the Ring Magnet, however It is not critical to fit at this distance.
Q Where does the ring magnet go and what does it do?
A These are installed before the Floodcheck primarily to reduce lime scale build up and prevent any ferrous particles entering the valve and getting lodged inside.
Q What is the mechanical filter and where does it go?
A The mechanical filter is fitted inside the valve inlet as a precaution to prevent any stray particles over 1mm entering the valve. The mechanical filter needs to be cleaned out occasionally, if you see any reduction in the water flow rate this would be a good indication that its time to clean the filter. Removal and cleaning takes just a few minutes and should only need to be done every couple of years or so.
Q If I install a Floodcheck will there be a drop in my water pressure?
A Whilst there is possibly a small reduction in the total flow volume, this is typically less than 4% so you should not see a noticeable pressure drop after installing a Floodcheck device. Larger valves are available if required for large homes and commercial premises.
Q What maintenance does the Floodcheck require?
A Virtually no ongoing maintenance is required, only as indicated above if the flow seems to be affected. We strongly advise testing the unit’s functionality at least once a year, however for real peace of mind this can be done on a monthly basis.
Q What is Self Testing?
A Self Testing is simply a case of operating the manual on / off button on the Water Control Switch, which takes about 20 seconds. A more thorough test can be done by reducing the time out to 10 minutes and leaving a tap running continuously for more than 10 minutes. (see the Adjust Flow Time page for instructions on how to do this)
Q What are Wetpads?
A Wetpads are small plastic devices with sensors that can detect even the smallest amount of water. It is about the length of a credit card. They are wired into the back of the Water Control Switch (only two wires required) and placed anywhere around the property where a water leak could or might be expected. We recommend installing Wetpads under washing machines, dishwashers, under boilers, under the sink or bath etc. Any number of Wet Pads can be fitted, and adding more is simple, due to the easy wiring simply join them up in parallel. As there is no voltage connected to the Wetpads, installation is completely safe. If any one of the Wetpads get even slightly damp, it will set off a loud audible alarm inside the Water Control Switch. It will also turn off the water supply until it is reset.
Q What working pressure does the Floodcheck require?
A The valve has an operating requirement of approximately +2 bars, but will operate a little less than this. It is burst tested to 20 bars but certified at 10 bars.
Q What is the operating temperature?
A Although designed primarily for cold water supplies the valve has been tested and approved by WRAS to working temperatures between 4 – 70°C.
Q What is the WRAS Certification number?
A The W.R.A.S. certification number is 1601022 EXPIRES 2021.
